ON FRIDAY, A&O HOSTED ITS ANNUAL BLOWOUT CONCERT FEATURING
JUSTINE SKYE, DAYGLOW, AND STUDENT OPENER DJ KAVI.

WE SPOKE WITH FANS BEFORE THE EVENT TO GAUGE THEIR THOUGHTS.

[Lenna Peterson]: I love Dayglow so I was really really excited. I’m excited to be here, I’m looking forward to it.

[Vrinda Gupta]: I’m feeling great!

[Liv]: I’m excited, I didn’t go to the one last year, so this is new, and I’m curious to see what it’s about.

[Ji-Ho]: I think I like this a lot more because it’s more my kind of music.

STUDENTS WERE PARTICULARLY EXCITED TO HEAR THIS YEAR’S HEADLINER:
DAYGLOW.

[Jessica Watts]: Who are you guys most excited to see?

[VG]: Dayglow, definitely.

[Lucas D]: Definitely Dayglow.

[Jordan Eisen]: I’ve only heard of Dayglow so I’m pretty excited for that.

[Ellie]: When I saw Dayglow, I was like oh my God, mind blown.

[Shrey]: I do feel like Dayglow is a little less well-known than Amine and Willow, but I think that it still appeals to a wide enough niche of people at Northwestern.”

[Callie] : I’ve actually seen Dayglow in concert already last year, so I was like,
awesome!

[Joann Lenart]: I’m a huge fan of Dayglow, I’ve been to his concerts before, so
when I saw he was showing I was like this is gonna be epic and fun.

THE NIGHT STARTED OFF WITH DJ KAVI’S SET TO GET STUDENTS HYPED FOR
THE EVENT. WE SPOKE WITH HIM ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE.

[DJ Kavi] “I felt, I felt really good. I mean, I think this is my biggest gig that I’ve
done in terms of DJing, so I was a bit nervous. But, um… Like, uh, I, I felt very
excited for the most part, and yeah, I’ve done a lot of performing in the past,
cause I, I came in as a theater major at Northwestern, I’m not currently one, but,
um, done theater a lot in my, in my life and so it, it felt very similar, the sensation
of performing.

THEN JUSTINE SKYE TOOK THE STAGE TO LOUD CHEERS FROM THE AUDIENCE.

[nat sound: crowd cheering as Justine Skye goes on]

SHE ALSO PLAYED HER HIT SINGLE, “COLLIDE” TO END HER SET.

[nat sound: “Collide”]

NEXT, DAYGLOW TOOK THE STAGE TO FINISH THE SHOW.

[nat sound: Dayglow chant]

TO BREAK UP A SET FULL OF HIGH-ENERGY SONGS, DAYGLOW PLAYED THE
WII THEME,

[nat sound: crowd reacting to Wii theme song]

PERFORMED A MASH-UP OF TEARS FOR FEARS’ “EVERYBODY WANTS TO
RULE THE WORLD” AND DAYGLOW’S OWN “RUN THE WORLD!!!”,

[nat sound: “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”/”Run the World!!!” performance]

AND TALKED TO THE AUDIENCE.

[Dayglow]: I released Fuzzybrain from my dorm room the first week of school, I
thought I would just sort of exist and go to college… I seriously never would have
ever thought that I would have the opportunity to do any of this.

VIRAL SONGS LIKE “HOT ROD” AND “CAN I CALL YOU TONIGHT?” HAD THE
WHOLE CROWD DANCING AND SINGING ALONG.

[audio: crowd screaming along to “Can I Call You Tonight?”]

AND THE VERDICT FROM THE PERFORMERS?

[DJ Kavi]: It was, it was super fun. They, they took care of most of the, most of
the things. So I only really have to worry about, you know, uh, preparing my set.
And so that, that’s a good thing.

[Dayglow]: We hope you’re having a good night, we sure are.

ALL IN ALL, BLOWOUT WAS ENJOYABLE FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED.

FOR WNUR NEWS, THIS IS JESSICA WATTS AND LARA CHOY.
