It’s not your typical adaptation. The famous musical…best known for its Christian themes…is produced by Northwestern’s Jewish Theatre Ensemble. The show’s director, Talya Braverman, is leading the cast and crew through final rehearsals.

TALYA BRAVERMAN: AT THIS POINT IN TIME WHERE THE JEWISH COMMUNITY ACROSS THE NATION IS REALLY AT ODDS AND TRYING TO PIECE TOGETHER WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A JEWISH PERSON, THIS SHOW FELT VERY POTENT IN THAT CONTEXT.

Casting was also gender-blind. The roles of Jesus and Judas typically feature male actors. In this rendition, they are played by female and genderqueer students.

The show will be performed this Friday and Saturday nights in Norris Student Center.
