Mee-Ow Is Back This Winter

The Northwestern comedy group Mee-Ow turned 50 last year to much fanfare. Exhibits in Deering, celebrity visits, and a grand alumni reunion defined last season. Now heading into their 51st season, the group doesn’t want to get lost in the past. Reporter Ella Barnes has more.

After their milestone year, Mee-Ow is looking to balance history with fresh energy. They work quickly – every member writes two new sketches for each rehearsal. With five rehearsals a week and two shows this quarter, co-director and cast member Brenden Dahl says his goal is to maintain last year’s momentum while ensuring Mee-Ow remains a space for new expression.

BRENDEN DAHL: “I don’t want it to feel like it’s this unwieldy, grand traditional thing, I want it to just feel like a fun kinda cultural rebellion – that’s how they talked about it at the beginning – but also just like a fun party that all the, all the students want to go to.” (11s)

Their first show of the quarter, The Mee-Owgic School Bus, plays in Shanley Pavilion this Friday and Saturday at 7 and 10 pm
