HI, I’M DANIEL GROSS, AND IT’S TIME FOR YOUR NU SPORTS REPORT THIS WEEK–A QUICK LOOK AT WHAT THE ‘CATS ARE UP TO AROUND THE BIG TEN.

M BASKETBALL

NORTHWESTERN MEN’S BASKETBALL’S BUBBLE HAS BURST. OUR WEEK AS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL HAS COME TO AN ABRUPT END. THE CATS TUMBLED OUT OF THE TOP 25 RANKINGS AFTER TWO LOSSES LAST WEEK. NORTHWESTERN BLEW AN 18 POINT HALFTIME LEAD AT ILLINOIS ON THURSDAY, DESPITE A 35 POINT PERFORMANCE BY BOO BOUIE. I GUESS OTHER PLAYERS NEED TO SCORE, TOO. THEY FOLLOWED THAT PERFORMANCE WITH A 16 POINT LOSS AT MARYLAND ON SUNDAY. THE CATS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK AT WELSH-RYAN ARENA TONIGHT AGAINST PENN STATE, BEFORE PLAYING AT RUTGERS SUNDAY TO END THE REGULAR SEASON. THEY’RE CURRENTLY SECOND IN THE BIG 10 STANDINGS HEADING INTO THE BIG 10 TOURNAMENT. DESPITE THE UNRANKED STATUS, THE MEN ARE CURRENTLY STILL PROJECTED TO BE A 6 SEED IN THE MARCH MADNESS TOURNAMENT.

W BASKETBALL

AS FOR THE WOMEN, MARCH MADNESS LOOKS TO BE OUT OF REACH. AT LAST IN THE BIG 10, AND JUST A 9-20 RECORD, THE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM WOULD NEED A BIG RUN IN THE BIG10 TOURNAMENT TO EARN A SPOT. THE TEAM KICKED OFF THEIR BIG 10 TOURNAMENT TODAY AGAINST RUTUGERS, LOSING BY 9 AT THE TIME OF RECORDING. THE CATS HAVE ESPECIALLY STRUGGLED AT THREE POINT SHOOTING, WITH JUST A .260 PERCENTAGE FROM DOWNTOWN.

LACROSSE

AFTER A 7 POINT WIN AGAINST MARQUETTE LAST THURSDAY, THE 3RD-RANKED CATS LOOK TO CONTINUE THEIR WINNING WAYS THIS SATURDAY AT NOON AGAINST VANDERBILT AT RYAN FIELDHOUSE. IZZY SCANE HAS BEEN ESPECIALLY STRONG FOR THE CATS, WITH 27 GOALS AND 6 ASSISTS SO FAR THIS SEASON. MADISON TAYLOR EARNED BIG 10 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK FOR THE THIRD WEEK IN A ROW AFTER SCORING 2 GOALS AND PULLING DOWN 8 DRAW CONTROLS AGAINST MARQUETTE. THE CATS ALSO PLAY AT HOME SUNDAY AGAINST YOUNGSTOWN STATE, IN WHAT THE NORTHWESTERN ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT WEBSITE LISTS AS SENIOR NIGHT.

TENNIS

THE NORTHWESTERN MEN’S TENNIS TEAM WAS RANKED 12 IN THE MOST RECENT ITA RANKINGS. THIS COMES AFTER A LOSS TO MEMPHIS FRIDAY AND  WINS AGAINST VANDERBILT AND UIC SUNDAY. THE CATS LOOK TO CONTINUE THEIR WINNING WAYS AT COLUMBIA ON FRIDAY.

THE WOMEN, ON THE OTHER HAND, HAVE STRUGGLED. THE CATS LOST SUNDAY AND SOUTH FLORIDA, AND FOLLOWED THAT UP WITH A LOSS MONDAY AGAINST SEVENTH RANKED TEXAS A&M. THEY LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK WITH GAMES THIS FRIDAY AGAINST KANSAS AND SUNDAY AT INDIANA.

THAT’S IT FOR THE NU SPORTS REPORT THIS WEEK! FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT UPCOMING GAMES, AS WELL AS HOW YOU CAN WATCH THE WILDCATS LIVE, VISIT WWW.NUSPORTS.COM.
