MARGOT: On a rainy Wednesday evening, I walked into downtown Evanston. I ducked into Prairie Moon, a local bar and restaurant and went down a flight of stairs.

SOT: Sound of jazz music

MARGOT: Around me, Evanstionisns sat at wood tables, drank, ate and enjoyed live
music performed by the Chris Greene Quartet. Blue lights illuminated the artists and the
basement was filled with fairy lights.

GENIE: I love jazz.

MARGOT: That was Genie Bradge, a long-time Evanston resident, guitarist, singer-songwriter and rock and roll musician for children. This was her first Prairie Moon
jazz night.

GENIE: They are all phenomenally talented as individuals … and then when they play together, their top-shelf.

MARGOT: Prairie Moon features live jazz music every Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

GENIE: Jazz and blues are the basis of rock, funk and rap and hip-hop, and there are so many derivative genres that started with jazz.

MARGOT: They recently partnered with the Chicago’s Fulton Street Collective, a local community of artists, in order to host these events.

BEE: For me, with jazz, it really gets me moving. I feel you can really relate to the music by the beats and the drums.

MARGOT: Bee Allen is a writer for OurEvanston and creator of Busy Bea Travels. It is a social media platform that documents Bee’s adventures, lifestyle tips, favorite
restaurants and events in the Chicagoland area.

BEE: People may be local, trying to figure out what to do in the city. I know for me, I love listening to live music, to be here, and get some good food and drinks as well has
been really fun.

MARGOT: The Chris Greene Quartet features Chris Greene on saxophone, Damian Espinosa on piano, Marc Piani on bass and Steve Corely on drums. The group has been performing across Chicago for more than 15 years and has released over nine albums.

MARK: I love jazz, love blues, love Chicago jazz and blues.

MARGOT: Mark Clemor grew up in Evanston and moved back a month ago. He started getting into jazz in the 80s after attending the Chicago Blues Festival, an annual
three-day event held in June.

MARK: Free form. Jazz is beautiful. Enjoy the music!

MARGOT: The cover fee for Prairie Moon jazz nights is $7, and all proceeds go directly to the artists.
