In movie news, “Challengers” and “Call Me by Your Name” director Luca Guadagnino is set to head a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s famed 1991 novel “American Psycho.” The film will be the second adaptation of Ellis’s book, coming 24 years after the release of the first Christian Bale led, Mary Harron directed flick. Scott Z. Burns, known for his work on “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “Contagion,” will write the screenplay for the film. Though little details have been released, some actors are already vying for a chance to play the infamous Patrick Bateman, including “Monsters” breakout star Cooper Koch.
In music news, the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall Fame induction ceremony took place yesterday, featuring stunning performances by pop legend Cher, funk masters Kool & the Gang, and gospel icon Dionne Warwick to name a few. Other inductees this year included Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Ozzy Osbourne and Dave Matthews Band. Cher was inducted by actress Zendaya, who noted that “Her name is just as legendary as her legacy.” In her speech, Cher said she was inspired by Cinderella and thanked her mother for instilling in her to persevere through defeat.
In sports news, the inaugural 6 Kings Slam took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia over the past week, featuring some of the biggest names in men’s tennis. The exhibition event, which featured the largest prize in tennis history, was headlined by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune. Sinner ended up taking the top prize of $6 million USD, clinching a victory over Alcaraz in the final. Djokovic defeated Nadal for the third-place trophy, expressing an emotional farewell to his Spanish opponent who is set to retire at next month’s Davis Cup finals.
In celebrity news, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is pregnant with her second child. The news was confirmed by Vogue yesterday that Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney were expecting another baby in an article and on its Instagram page. The Instagram post, which showed a photo of Lawrence posing for the magazine and a snap of her with a baby bump in Los Angeles on Oct. 19, congratulated the couple.
Finally, allegations of poor conditions from those who worked on YouTuber MrBeast’s new Amazon Studios show have pushed some to call for more safety oversight on creators’ sets. While filming “Beast Games,” MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, faced backlash after claims came out that he fostered an unsafe working environment. Back in September, five show contestants filed a class action lawsuit alleging they were “shamelessly exploited” while competing.
