The B-List is back! Allison Rauch has more on the SNL season premiere, WNBA finals and Martin Scorcese’s latest film, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Welcome to the B-List, your weekly roundup of celebrity mess and pop culture. This week: SNL returns, Killers of the Flower Moon, and WNBA Finals continues.
In celebrity, actress Suzanne Somers passed away yesterday at age 76. She had breast cancer for over 23 years. Somers was best known for her role as Chrissy Snow on the sitcom Three’s Company. Her 77th birthday would have been today.
Comedian Pete Davidson hosted the first SNL episode since the writer’s strike. Rapper Ice Spice performed as the musical guest, and Taylor Swift made a cameo to introduce her. Travis Kelce, Swift’s rumored boyfriend, also cameoed in a skit.
In movies, Killers of the Flower Moon comes out this Friday. The film is directed by Martin Scorcese, and is based on a book by journalist David Grann. Killers already has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, and Lily Gladstone.
In sports, don’t call it a comeback. At least not just yet. The New York Liberty have pushed the WNBA finals to 5 games. After the Las Vegas Aces won last Sunday and Wednesday, some were predicting a sweep. But the Liberty fought back, clinching an 87-73 win last night. The next game is set for this Wednesday at 7pm CST.
No more undefeated NFL teams remain after this weekend. The San Francisco 49ers fell 17-19 to the Cleveland Browns sans quarterback Deshaun Watson. The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New York Jets 14-20. This is the earliest in the season that all teams have had a loss since 2017.
That’s all for the B List this week. Check in next Monday to hear about what happens this week in pop culture. For WNUR News, I’m Allison Rauch.
